Gala concert "the Music of Northern countries"

This September "Classica" St. Peterburg State Symphony Orchestra had a very unusual opening of the new musical season 2015/2016.

The audience of Saint-Petersburg were hardly familiar with the most of the music performed this evening. For instance, music of swedish composer W. Stenhammar was included in the program under the offer of the Consulate General of Sweden in St. Petersburg. His most outstanding symphonic poem «Excelsior!» was chosen.
The story about the premiere of J. Sibelius symphonic poem «Pohjolas Daughter» is very significant. At the begining of the XX century the composer himself visited St. Petersburg to present this piece. He even performed as a conductor! This performance was warmly received by the audience, the reviews in press were excelent.
And, In 2015, after more than a 100 years, audience of St. Petersburg is very passionate about music of Sibelius.
The symphony № 3 by the most famous danish composer Carl Nielsen became the highlight of the evening.
This year «Klassika» is planning the whole series «The work of the composer Carl Nielsen», dedicated to the 150th jubilee of danish composer with all 6 of Nielsen's symphonies. It’ll be a great present and opportunity for the audience of St. Petersburg to discover more about this amazing composer.
